Suzanne’s Story

Without words, a story can be told with a single picture. Such is the case with a picture of Suzanne. A photograph that Mavis (SEED president) took of Suzanne in 2008 during her first visit to Rwanda spoke to my heart. In that one image, I could see how life experiences and the impact of the genocide had left Suzanne in despair. Her spirit had been crushed, and she struggled to hang on.

When I met Suzanne in 2011, her countenance had changed. An introvert by nature, she expressed herself through a radiant smile that spoke volumes. What had changed? Suzanne was one of the first genocide survivors to receive support from our early ministry efforts. As a result, Suzanne now had hope!

She still faced numerous educational challenges, but she was no longer worried about food and basic essentials. She knew that SEED a Better Life genuinely loved and cared for her. In 2017, when the SEED team returned to Rwanda, we were overjoyed to see the additional emotional progress Suzanne has made. She has discovered her talent as a knitter and modeled a lovely yellow sweater ensemble she had made. Suzanne smiled wide when we praised her handiwork. What a transformation! It’s amazing how just a little support can take a person from despair to hope. We are so grateful for the support from our donors that has enabled us to give Suzanne the hope she needed to unleash her talent and make her own money.

We look forward to providing ongoing support for Suzanne, as she creates a sustainable future for herself, but we desperately need your help. Will you consider donating today to provide the funds Suzanne needs to keep her loom in operation and buy more yarn?

Thank you for your continued commitment. Your giving to SEED a Better Life matters — it is life changing!
